Lemnly is a product of Sooties LLC. This is the plain-language summary of how the service handles your data, written to match what the app actually does. If anything is unclear, please ask at hello@sooties.com.
What we collect
- Your email address. Sign-in is passwordless — you enter your email and receive a one-time code. The email is your account identity, so everything below is linked to it.
- The content you create: your decks, collections, cards, tags, notes and review history.
- The sources you import (URLs, EPUB, DOCX, plain text, photos, voice notes). Source text is retained as long as it’s useful to your import preview, then discarded; we keep only the cards you chose to add.
- Optional profile details you choose to add: a first name for the home greeting, a public display name shown on collections you publish, and a profile photo.
- Your preferences — interface and study language, theme, daily goals, streak counters — and a per-day count of AI operations used only to enforce fair-use limits.
What we don’t do
- We don’t run analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or advertising SDKs. The app collects no usage statistics and no device identifiers.
- We don’t track you across other apps or websites, and we don’t use any advertising identifier (no IDFA).
- We don’t sell or rent your data. Not to advertisers, not to anyone.
- We don’t train AI models on your library.
- We don’t share your decks with other learners unless you explicitly publish them.
Service providers we use
Lemnly runs on a backend that calls a small number of specialised providers to make features work. Each receives only the specific data listed, and only for that purpose:
- Convex — our backend and database host. Stores your account and all the content above.
- Resend — sends your sign-in emails. Receives your email address and the one-time code.
- Anthropic (Claude, Haiku tier) — labels words, translates, and answers grammar “explain” requests. Receives the words, the context sentence they came from, and any photo you submit for text extraction. Anthropic does not retain these requests for training under our agreement.
- OCR.space — extracts text from photos you import. Receives the image you chose to import.
- Replicate — generates the illustrative image on a card. Receives a short scene description derived from a word’s meaning — never your own text or photos.
- URL imports — when you import from a web address, our backend fetches that page you chose. No data about you is sent beyond the request itself.
Voice input uses your device’s built-in speech recognition (provided by Apple or Google). Depending on your device and settings, audio may be processed by that operating-system service, which is governed by the device maker’s own privacy policy.
The shared vocabulary and image cache
When Lemnly labels a new lemma in a given language, or generates an image for a meaning, the result is stored in a shared cache keyed by the language and the word’s meaning — e.g. (language, lemma). This cache is purely linguistic. It never includes your books, your decks, your notes, or any identifier connected to you, and it is reused across learners so the same work isn’t repeated.
Publishing and sharing
Your library is private by default. If you choose to publish a collection, the cards in it — together with your public display name and profile photo, if you set them — become visible to other users. This only happens when you publish; nothing is shared silently.
Cookies and on-device storage
The website uses a single first-party cookie to keep you logged in. No third-party tracking cookies. In the mobile app, your session token is stored securely on your device (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore).
Where your data is processed
Sooties LLC is based in the United States, and the providers above process data in the United States and other countries. If you use Lemnly from the European Economic Area or the UK, your data is transferred internationally on that basis. Our EU representative under Article 27 GDPR can be reached at the contact email below.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly in the app (see below), or contact us and we’ll help. You can also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
Data export and deletion
You can delete your account from your account settings in the app — this removes your account and content from our systems immediately, and any residual copies at our providers or in backups are cleared within 30 days.
Self-serve export isn’t built into the app yet. Until it is, email us and we’ll send you a copy of your library.
Children
Lemnly isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we’ll remove it.
Changes
If we change how we handle data, we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date above.
